Pima County Supervisors vote in Photo Radar

By a vote of three for and two against, the Pima County Board of Supervisors voted to deploy 20 photo radar cameras in Pima County. Fines start at $250 dollars…absolutely ridiculous!
Meet the heroes and zeros…

Now for the BIG ZERO’S…

Sharon Bronson, District 3

Well…I don’t think we can expect much from her.  Ms. Bronson voted for Photo Radar. I think she was just following the rest of the sheep. She really didn’t say much of anything.

Ramón Valadez, District 2
(520) 740-8126

Mr. Valadez was actually quoted as saying “While I understand and have some empathy towards the right of speeders to speed, the truth is we have a responsibility on the board to look at the overall safety of our community”.  I don’t think he appreciates how frustrated the public really is.

Richard Elías, Chairman, District 5

The leader of the pack. I couldn’t figure out if he was for or against anything, when push came to shove, he voted for the camera system.

We all know that driving is a privilege; Ms. Bronson, Mr. Elias, Mr. Valadez, so are your jobs. These people need to be voted out of office. We will be keeping a close eye on these individuals.

Sorry if this is the wrong place to post this, but I haven’t been able to figure out how (or if) this site is organized.

Can anyone here say authoritatively how the State presents its case when a red light case goes to a hearing? Does someone appear as a live witness to verify proper operation of the speed sensors and the cameras? Does the witness have knowledge of the technical details of digital photos and video? Do they show up with higher-resolution video than what they post on their “violationinfo” website? Is there a prosecutor there?

I ask these questions because I’ve been trying to help out a friend who got nabbed by the red light camera at Tanque Verde & Kolb/Grant. I’ve noticed a some potentially useful facts shown by the video posted on the web. In the video, at least, the lights actually facing the driver at the time he entered the intersection were not lit at all. The two posted still photos show full red lights on the opposite side of the intersection, but clicking through the video one frame at a time reveals that the lights were red in the video ONLY during those two instants shown in the photos and maybe a half-dozen other frames. In all other frames of the video, the lights are unlit, not steady read. I can’t tell if this is a shuttering artifact of the video camera, or whether the lights were actually malfunctioning.

When are each of these three up next for re-election?

  14. Robert Rowley says:

As a Democrat I am ashamed of the Democratic members of the board who vted in support of this steaming loaf of legislation. I may have to support and help get elected Republicans this coming election if no Democrats run against them.

  17. Bill Conley says:

    Don,
    “incorrect” is one word..

We’re not debating if you have the right to drive…we are debating your right to privacy and the abuse of government.

If I’m correct, the Supreme Court ruled on the right to travel, not your right to drive. They are not mutually exclusive.

  18. Ben says:

We have a representative government (well, in theory that is) and the fact is, we really only have the power to remove “them” from power at the ballet box, or maybe attempt a referendum at the state level. I think removing them is the best bet! But people must get involved now so we can make it clear WHY once they are removed! Public needs to be educated on so many things!

We have countless corrupt idiots in office (at all levels, local to Federal) that routinely abuse power, whether legal, constitutional, or NOT. They all seem to be immune to everything else (for the moment.) I am of the understanding (someone jump in and back me up with a link would be nice) but I understand that the cameras have been ruled illegal by AZ Supreme Court? If this is the case, even a referendum is likely to be ignored. If these crooks are this defiant, the only choice is to get them out of office, and make a strong attempt to replace them with better people.. (Not easy..)

Publicize this endlessly. I have a long list of things I want understand about Pima County alone.. who passed HDZ zoning, why the property taxes are not going down with the huge deflation of real estate.. much more.. and am working on it; slowly. (Small but STRONG steps I can say..) BTW, I am busy in my life too! But we must all find time!

I have heard that many people are planning independently to print and post photographs and posters of THE supervisors that are responsible for this outrage – Posting them ON the camera system poles! If they are removed, come behind again and put them back up until the criminals are well known to all and removed from office!

We need to attend the meetings and get the video in the news every time they try to sneak this crap onto us! By the way, I downloaded and read the Communist Manifesto a few weeks ago! Whether by intent, or coincidence, the tactics used by these subversive leftists are EXACTLY what we already have at every level of government and society today! Please, it is a MUST that you read this and see what is actually going on here! This goes far beyond cameras, which are only one symptom, (another tax which is explained in the manifesto) of the real disease!

So far everyone that I have passed this document to was shocked to see, this is what is going on line-for-line all over America! Local governments are among the worst! Start doing something now!
